About Lynne

Lynne Hornyak, Ph.D., PCC, is a psychologist, coach, consultant and trainer with over 20 years of experience helping corporate executives, entrepreneurs, senior-and mid-level managers and other professionals take charge of their careers, personal lives and finances.

Lynne’s question-focused approach to coaching and consulting helps clients to identify values that give them direction and meaning, discover biases and assumptions that limit their potential, and assess their impact on their world. Clients learn to think intentionally and strategically about their life allowing them to make choices that benefit themselves, their relationships and their organizations.

Key elements of Lynne's coaching:

Question Thinking – Learning to ask intentional and skillful questions to improve the quality of the answers obtained from self and others

Assumption Challenging – Understanding the boxes we often put ourselves in, and learning to think outside them

Blindspot Awareness – Learning to identify key personal blindspots, observe them in the moment, and ‘keep our eyes open’ to all options.

Lynne received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1983. In addition to maintaining a thriving therapy practice for eighteen years, she was director of a mental health clinic, taught psychology courses at the Pentagon, conducted workshops and trainings in her specialty areas, edited two professional books and served on over ten non-profit boards.

Lynne is certified as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) by the International Coach Federation (ICF). She is a graduate of the Mentor Coach Program (MCP) and serves on its faculty, mentoring and instructing other coaching professionals. Lynne also is a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), the American Psychological Association (APA) Division of Consulting Psychology, and the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD).

Lynne is affiliated with the Institute for Inquiring Leadership (IIL) and is certified in their strategic inquiry methods of coaching. With the founding partners of IIL, she designs and implements customized executive coach certification programs for corporations.

Q: How does your 20+ years as a therapist influence your coaching?

A: I’ve never been a “traditional therapist.” I think we all have stereotypes of the therapist who just listens and nods, or who makes profound interpretations of your personality. I have always been a very collaborative, interactive therapist, using lots of different methods to help my clients improve and live happier, healthier lives.

On the other hand, being a therapist teaches you a lot. You learn how to listen, really listen. You learn to clarify and articulate what’s going on for people on very deep levels. You learn to think broadly – not only what’s going on inside individuals but what is influencing them from outside – their relationships, life situations, the culture. And you learn to question, and offer perspectives that can open up new avenues. While coaching is not therapy, that psychological knowledge is a resource that I bring to the partnership with all of my clients.
